Booking entertainment - a joint decision

People simply love to be entertained, and of course a wedding reception is no exception to this basic rule. In fact a wedding reception is the perfect time to be a little more creative with your entertainment thoughts as you are likely to have guests spanning several generations and many people who do not know that many other guests.

Being creative with your entertainment plans can help you fill some of the ‘difficult parts of the day’ as well making sure that there are no lows. More than this, you can use entertainer as a great way of breaking the ice and helping people to mix.

For instance a wandering magician during the photographs will help keep those guests not being photographed entertained. Or a why not add a touch of sophistication with a silhouette artist – not only entertaining but also leaves your guests with an additional beautiful souvenir of your wedding day.

When selecting any form of entertainment for your special occasion, speak with the entertainers in person for a brief interview. Watch as they provide you with a sample of their work, special talent or skill. Remember, both the bride and groom should be present during each interview, which will help later in the final selection process. Once all potential acts have been interviewed, sit down and narrow the prospects according to your favorites. Once the list is smaller, discuss which performer offers you the best flex ability and will coordinate with your wedding theme and be a good match for your friends and family. It goes without saying that whomever you choose must be professional, friendly and courteous. They will be mingling with family and friends at the wedding, so it’s a good idea to make sure they are personable before asking them to be a part of your special day.

Anytime that you retain the services of an individual or business to entertain for your, a formal agreement should be put in place. If your chosen performer is a professional (rather than a part time hobbyist), they will have a standard contract for you. This contract should outline the date, time and location of the event, the amount of time the entertainer will spend at the function and any cancellation terms. In addition, if any booking fees are paid in order to reserve the date, this should be noted along with any remaining balance due. It’s a good idea to keep this type of paperwork tucked away in a safe place, which will be easily accessible should a future dispute arise regarding services rendered.

Whatever entertainment you select for your wedding reception, make sure that it is agreeable to both of you! The final selection should be someone, or a company, that you are comfortable with and who will provide you with the best entertainment for your investment. Shop around before making a final decision, compare prices (that is why we always find you a minimum of three quotes) and ask a lot of questions, after all it is your big day!
